An Aussie chapter in the print culture of New Zealand

The Sydney-based magazine, Aussie, published a New Zealand section between April 1923 and June 1931 for the New Zealand market. Aussie's NZ 'representative' and editor of the New Zealand section was Wellingtonian Pat Lawlor. This is the story of Pat Lawlor's Aussie years.

This is a 'work in progress'. If you have any information about, or can advise of anyone who has direct memories of the Aussie years, please send an email to spolsen2006@yahoo.co.nz This blogger broadsheet originated in conjunction with a brief presentation being made by Stephen Olsen at the second joint Conference of New Zealand and Australian Journalism Education Associations (JEANZ and JEA) as hosted by AUT University’s School of Communications Studies in Auckland, New Zealand, between 4-7 December 2006. The conference theme was "Journalism Downunder : the future of the media in the digital age", within which several parallel sessions were run, including one on Media History under which this paper on Aussie sits, and from which a 20,000 word dissertation is being written towards a Masters of New Zealand Studies through the Stout Research Centre at Victoria University, Wellington.
